We all need to keep track of time, whether it's to make sure we aren't late for work or an appointment, or catching our favorite tv program. Why have an ordinary factory make clock when you can decorate your home with a beautiful and unique hand crafted piece of art? You can find clocks to fit anyones decor and taste on etsy.

Fine Art Photography

I graduated from college more than 10 years ago with my degree in photography. I never wanted to photograph weddings or do portraiture and I was too timid to pursue photography as a fine art - so I turned to a life of clockmaking. Every now and then I feel a little wistful about my decision and I go back through all of my accumulated prints and slides. Today, instead of turning to my past to revisit my love of fine art photography, I decided to look through the Design Style Guide group's photography and find a few pieces that I most imagined decorating with. So, humor me, and take this little tour through the fine photography offered by some of the Design Style Guide's most inspired photographers. Delight in the range of composition, style and technique. Feel the emotional tug that can only be experienced when viewing something real and natural through another person's eyes.

From Ashton Photography + Design, a gorgeous low angle view of a wooden windmill with cherry blossoms in the foreground.

From Madrin Photography, an inspiring macro shot of a transformative insect on a pine bough.

How beautiful is this? Macro cactus shot from Thrive Style photography, a stunning lotus design courtesy of mother nature.

I love this technique from Linda Plaisted of Manymuses Studio. She uses it masterfully to place her subjects in the land of dreams.

I couldn't resist the jellies from Mystiqueisland. I imagine that having this on my wall would be a little like having my own private aquarium (minus the maintenance)!

anatomy lessons

After her first week of anatomy class, my sister had me assume the "anatomical position" and began enthusiastically labeling my body, rattling off terms I'd never heard of, like "hallux," "bucco," and "popliteus." Having never studied anatomy, I found it all quite novel and fascinating: words droll and exotic in pronunciation, referring to segments of a finger or a bend in the elbow. Tiny parts of a whole. I'd never before thought of these small details as independent components of a body.

I've only just discovered the inspiration of anatomy, hidden beneath our skin and among our bones, but others have long understood the lovely craftsmanship of the human body. Many fine anatomical drawings occupy the listings on Etsy; take a peek:

Aqua Inspirations

When it comes to favourite colours, I have many. Different favourite colours for different things too, and these are subject to change!
When it comes to shoes and accessories, my favourite colour is red, when choosing art for my own home I am drawn to blue, seascapes and skies are right up my street. But when it comes to home decor my current colour fetish is aqua, and that is what I am going to explore today.

Room With A View - Harvest

Summer is sending out the last obstinate hours of heat as days grow shorter. Tomatoes and squash from the garden line the kitchen counter, and the catnip forest has started to yellow from the ground up. Soon enough, the maple trees will begin their glorious turning of color, and I will see the steam rising from my morning coffee as I sit outside on the front porch. Autumn is around the bend, and the grateful soil will rest.
