Hip Autumn Home Decor

Spice up your home decor with warm, Autumn hues. The designers at Design Style Guide are busy creating everything from ottomans to tablecloths to compliment a glowing fire in the fireplace and ruddy leaves drifting down outside your window.

This gorgeous contemporary ottoman from Observatory Place has an aspen base and a plushy cushion covered in orange corduroy and brown hemp. Perfect for putting your feet up by the fire.

Accent pillows are a good way to welcome the new season. This patchwork pillow by Flying Needle Gallery measures 16"x16" and is made from luxurious, hand woven Thai silk.

While you can't wrap up in this fine art quilt by Uncommon Cloth, gazing at it on your wall will certainly inspire thoughtfulness and reflection.

Autumn Mood from Point of View Photographic Art certainly brings the outside in vis-a-vis this macro photography print.

Nothing says warm and welcoming like a floral wreath. The Autumn Sunset Wreath from Southern Floral Girl....the name says it all.

Decorating on a Limited Budget

Last month, interior designer Gail Doby provided some wonderful tips on how to decorate a new house on a limited budget. Since we recently bought a new house with a main floor in desperate need of a makeover, and to say we have a limited budget would be an understatement, I decided to try some of Gail's suggestions for our dining room. I took a look around our house to see what we already have to work with, and found out that we had more than I thought we did. Then I chose some colors and went to the paint store.

This is what I started with - a dull and boring color, an almost empty room and an old table with a missing chair.

And this is what I ended with. I painted the walls a bright yellow, replaced the missing chair and refinished the table and chairs, and moved an old dresser into the room along with some art that was in another room.

And the total price tag for supplies was under $300 if you can believe it. I still can't get over how much of a difference a few cans of paint and rearranging furniture can make in a room. And it is something anyone can do.

I would still like to change out the art work on the smaller wall. So, I searched the Design Style Guide website and found a few wonderful prints that I think would look great and complete our makeover.

Like this Sleeping Bunting print from Wannabes, Photography by Deborah Brackenbury.

And this Colorful Tulips print from Renie Britenbucher Glass Tapestry Artworks

And this Rooster Print from Torrie Smiley

So get inspired with Design Style Guide website and go makeover your home!

Village in Late Summer by Carl Sandburg

Lips half-willing in a doorway.

Wallflower by ArtSnark.

Lips half-singing at a window.

Eyes half-dreaming in the walls.

Feet half-dancing in the kitchen.

Even the clocks half-yawn the hours

Good Day Sunshine

I woke this morning with the song "Good Day Sunshine" in my head and decided to see what sunny yellow items I could feature for my post today.

I love these sherbert lemon flowers from ffflowers. They are so bright and sunny. And the best part about these flowers is that they never need watering and they never wilt.

This Spring Sunshine giclee print from Karen Faulkner is so sunny. It would definitely brighten up your room! Karen Faulkner is also featured in the first Design Style Guide giveaway, which ends June 3, so hurry for a chance to win!
This Silver Copper Sunrise sun catcher from Nature's Studio would bring the warmth of the sun right into your room.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I love how this Sunshine watercolor by Sagewest captures their weight and sunny disposition.

Room With A View - Apricots and Peaches

I doubt there is a room decor or decorating style that wouldn't benefit from a touch of creamy orange. From peach to apricot to coral, these luscious hues may be bold or subtle, lively or demure. Here are some my favorites from the Design Style Guide team on Etsy:

This flower trio from funky fabric flowers was handloomed from ribbon yarns, and would make a delightful tabletop accent.

IMOTIME created vintage utility with this tupperware wall clock in palest peach.

Gorgeous peach tulips, original wall art photography from Flanders Field.

This picture frame from Secondline Frames is salvaged beadboard. Architecturally pleasing alone, or highlighting a favorite photo.

Hand crocheted napkin cuffs from sosorosey, featuring vintage buttons, would add subtle texture and color to your dining room and breakfast table settings.

Several shades of orange enliven Flowers with Vase, an original oil painting from Blenda Studio.

At the Barre, a fine art print from Kat Hannah.

An Abstracted Portal, original art photography from elephantdreams.

All that glisters is not gold.

- Merchant of Venice, Wm. Shakespeare

Whether made of real gold or golden thread, glaze, paint, or other material, gold is a color that warms up any room in your home. I was creating a treasury of items created by the members of the Design Style Guide and came across many beautiful items for the home.

This 5” x 7” giclee entitled “The Magician” by ImagineStudio would be a fabulous addition to a cozy, golden-hued room.
I can picture one of vsilcox’s candle holders sitting on or in front of this beautiful celestial mirror by Naturestudio .
I’ve always loved the glasswork by vsilcoxdesigns , and especially this beautiful candle holder . It measures 3” x 3” x 3” and is made of tempered lead-free glass.
Can’t you picture this 14” x 90” black velvet table runner on your dining set? It was created by cranberrymak in an eye catching design that weaves gold, copper, bronze and black together in a texturally rich geometric pattern for a richly elegant table setting.

This 8” x 12” raku sculpture by the buddhabuilder is titled Clouds Passing in Front of a Golden Moon (or Sun). It would add a decorative touch to a wall in a living room, bathroom or bedroom.

The artist created each of the many stars, sun and moon out of polymer clay. It’s a stunning handmade piece.

Check out this set of five nesting bowls by pagepottery which can be both functional as well as decorative. The bowls measure from 4” to 2.5” and would be perfect for small dipping oils and sauces, candies, or as holders for potpourri, loose change, or jewelry.

For more items to help you decorate your home, type “designstyleguide” and a color or other descriptive word into the search engine on Etsy’s home page .

Here is a beautiful, handmade, glass birdbath by Glorious Glass Garden for your feathered freinds.

This gorgeous Cirtine Garden Plate by Catnip Studio uses broken, vintage, German china in the center. So pretty!

This pretty little handpaited flowerpot by Rebekah with Love would brighten up a windowsill or entryway.
