Village in Late Summer by Carl Sandburg

Lips half-willing in a doorway.

Wallflower by ArtSnark.

Lips half-singing at a window.

Eyes half-dreaming in the walls.

Feet half-dancing in the kitchen.

Even the clocks half-yawn the hours

And the farmers make half-answers.

Bathrooms

I don’t know about you but I am always fascinated with other peoples’ bathrooms and especially hotel ones! It is a wonderful feeling when you enter a nice hotel room to have a quick peek at the ensuite facilities especially when you get the ‘wow’ factor as you switch on the illuminations.

Well the following might not be from hotels but they certainly rank high in the ‘wow’ stakes!

Very striking handmade pair of bath soap dishes from Page Pottery

The dishes are hand made and textured. The round feet on the bottom of the dish make it extra cute, especially with the textures on them!

Good Day Sunshine

I woke this morning with the song "Good Day Sunshine" in my head and decided to see what sunny yellow items I could feature for my post today.

I love these sherbert lemon flowers from ffflowers. They are so bright and sunny. And the best part about these flowers is that they never need watering and they never wilt.

This Spring Sunshine giclee print from Karen Faulkner is so sunny. It would definitely brighten up your room! Karen Faulkner is also featured in the first Design Style Guide giveaway, which ends June 3, so hurry for a chance to win!
This Silver Copper Sunrise sun catcher from Nature's Studio would bring the warmth of the sun right into your room.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I love how this Sunshine watercolor by Sagewest captures their weight and sunny disposition.

Spring Showers

The thought of spring showers and plants conjures up images of preparing vegetable plots, flower beds etc in our gardens. At this time of year in the UK we have our annual Chelsea Flower Show. This is a spectacular and ultimate gardening show where ‘pretend’ gardens are created with various themes. During the show you can walk around gaining inspiration as well as being able to purchase plants to take home. At the end of the show the gardens are all dismantled with plants and accessories being offered for sale to the general public on the last day. Plants are also donated to local hospices, schools and charities which I think is a super idea to allow those who are not able to enjoy the wonders of this show to relish the plants beyond.

And so, my friends, I turned my attention to search for items to compliment my theme title from this amazing interior design team.

Isn’t this silk scented arrangement with mini cream roses just gorgeous?

Do visit Melrose Fields to find this and many more blooms in the most beautiful and exotic arrangements.

These blooms would not be out of place in the Chelsea Flower show. Note the Hula girl in the corner!

Tropical Splendor is an original oil painting by Elizabeth Graf

Flowers can be displayed in all manner of ways like this Watering Can Bouquet of Hydrangeas by Yankee Girl.

All that’s missing is a little butterfly but then it’s early days!

Friendships are like flowers - need tending to bloom by Wandering Whimsies.

Often a visit to the show is a popular activity for friends with similar interests to share. This sampler testifies to this sentiment!

image

Red Flower could be an autumnal creature or a flower that appears at any other time of year.

On A Whimsey uses her love of encaustics (wax painting) to create this beauty! ‘Well with tongue in cheek, I had to slip that one in didn’t I?’

image

…. Talking of butterflies, what about this beautiful Handmade Butterfly Feeder?

Glorious Glass Garden has more lovely feeders made from functional stained glass.

Now that you have a feel for the outdoors don’t you wish you could visit? One day!!!

Kitchen refurbishment!

Recently, our kitchen underwent a total refurbishment.  All the dust and upheaval has been worth it though even though I complained whilst all the work was being done.  Trouble was it seemed to be a constant moving of dust from one end of the house to the other only to have to start again at the beginning once one set of workmen had finished their jobs.

Anyway, I was pleased with the result and even managed to find a good excuse to ditch some of the more decorative items and renew them.  This meant my having to search and where would be the best place to start?  You’ve got it!  Right here in the super Interior Designs Team.

To tell the time I thought this would look cute.

A Little Bit of Old and A Little Bit of New

Anyone who has even been to my house can see that it is full of an eclectic array of hand-me-downs, rescued items, thrift store pieces, new items and even a few antiques. I think, and I've been told by others who are maybe just being nice to me, that my house is a perfect mixture of old and new. And after spending all week refinishing two old pieces of furniture to fit in with a few new pieces I recently purchased, I thought I would see what some of the members of Design Style Guide had to offer in the furniture department. I was not disappointed.

Here are a few of my favorite finds.

I love the lines on this Havana Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Lunar Lounge Design. And it would add a perfect punch of color to the room.

And these wonderful, vintage Hollywood Regency chairs by KLUpholstery would look perfect flanking a cafe table in a corner of your house.

I love all of Mad Tea Party Furniture's items. This Age of Innocence Hand Painted Clock is one of my favorites. It would make such a fun statement in your house.

I love this Girtz Plasma TV Stand by Shaka Studios. The primitive finish adds a softness to the room that provides a nice counterpoint to the harsh lines of your plasma TV.

Everyone needs a small stool to reach the top-shelve items in your cupboards and closets. Why not use one with a little personality like this Pullman-Type stool from Wislancraft.

And accent your room decor with these Art Deco-style candle holders from Arzu Musa.

And don't forget the puppy! These Uniquely Handcrafted Doggie Beds by Jakeybb are perfect for your pampered pet.
